First step was to find a drum. I initially wanted to go with a refurbished stainless drum, but my wallet put a stop to that pretty fast. I "settled" for a refurbished food-grade steel drum from a local drum and supply shop. No idea what was in the drum before.

This one is unlined and the only thing inside is some sort of rust inhibitor that I'll burn off when I burn the paint off the outside.
